Northwest University Concert Choir
For the past 7 years, the Concert Choir of Northwest University has been directed by Professor William E. Owen, chairman of the music department at Northwest University, Kirkland, WA. Under his direction the Concert Choir performs in churches throughout the Northwest region, on campus and our tour abroad bi-annually. Additionally, they occasionally sing at ACDA events in the Seattle area. Two recent tours include England and Wales (2006), where they performed in Canterbury, Southwark, Bristol, and Winchester cathedrals, Bath Abbey, Holy Trinity Church in Stratford, and Great St. Mary's Church in Cambridge; and Italy (2008) where they performed in Florence, Pistoia, Sorrento, Siena, Rome, and St. Marks Cathedral in Venice.
William E. Owen, Director
William E. Owen, is nearing completion of the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting at the University of Washington, specifically with Dr. Geoffrey Boers and Prof. Abraham Kaplan. Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he received his B.S. in Sacred Music from North Central University in Minneapolis and an M.M. in Vocal Performance from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Additionally, he has studied choral conducting with Paul Christiansen, (Concordia College, Moorhead, MN.), Gerald Mack, (Hartt School of Music, Hartford, CT.). Presently he is the chairman of the Music Department at Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington where in
addition to administrative duties, he directs the Concert Choir, and teaches conducting, hymnody, and music history. Since 2006, Mr. Owen has also served as the Director of Choral Worship at Seattle's University Presbyterian Church, where he directs the Cathedral Choir and assists in the planning of their weekly worship services. Prior to these appointments, Mr. Owen successfully directed the Music Ministry at churches in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Manitoba in full time capacities for 16 years.
